Almost 4 in 10 Americans worry about paying bills in numbers surpassing Great Recession era!

'The grocery store is just outrageous right now,' one Ohio resident said!

Almost 40% of American adults say they are concerned about keeping up with their bills, per a new CNN poll.

"The grocery store is just outrageous right now," Ohio resident Angela Russell told CNN Business. "But it’s not just that. Everything has gone up. Clothing. My insurance."

CNN's study finding that 39% of American adults are concerned much or all the time about paying their bills comes amid reports that Americans are holding a record amount of household debt. In the first three months of 2024, total household debt surged to a fresh record of $17.69 trillion, an increase of $184 billion, or 1.1% from the previous quarter.

Homebuyers are getting cold feet!

Buyers are backing out of home deals at a record rate as prices march higher!

Would-be homebuyers are getting a case of cold feet as they confront still elevated mortgage rates and record-high housing prices.

New findings published by Redfin show that a growing number of buyers are backing out of deals to buy a house at the last minute because buying a home is more expensive than ever. About 56,000 home purchases were canceled in June – about 15% of homes that went under contract – the highest percentage of any June on record.

The median home sale price rose 4% in June to $442,525, the highest level on record. At the same time, the average 30-year mortgage rate was about 6.92%, more than double the pandemic-era lows.

JD Vance on Young Americans Struggling in Biden-Harris Economy: "They’re Worried About the Basics"!

Americans are paying more for gas, groceries, and housing under the Biden-Harris administration — a factor Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance hopes will drive young voters to support former President Donald Trump in November.

During a Wednesday interview with Vance on The Charlie Kirk Show, Charlie Kirk noted that 39-year-old Vance could allow Republicans to have “a new outreach to younger voters” and asked Vance what his message is “to young women who like the way that [Vice President Kamala Harris] dances on TikTok — meanwhile, 88,000 kids are missing and trafficked into America on her watch — and also your message to young male voters?”

“It’s pretty simple. I talk to my friends and my family who are sort of my age, maybe a little bit younger. They’re worried about the basics. They’re worried about whether they can afford to buy a house,” Vance replied. “They’re worried about starting a family and whether they can afford the groceries and the housing costs that come along with bringing new life into the world. Fed's key inflation gauge rises in line with expectations!

An inflation measure closely watched by the Federal Reserve eased slightly in June, even as high prices continued to weigh on millions of Americans.

The personal consumption expenditures (PCE) index showed that consumer prices rose 0.1% from the previous month, according to the Labor Department. On an annual basis, prices climbed 2.5% — down slightly from the 2.6% reading recorded the previous month.

The figures were both in line with estimates from economists surveyed by LSEG.

"Overall, it’s been a good week for the Fed," said Chris Larkin, managing director of trading and investing at E*Trade. "The economy appears to be on solid ground, and PCE inflation essentially remained steady. But a rate cut next week remains a longshot."

A growing number of Americans are falling behind on their monthly credit card payments as they continue to battle high inflation and interest rates.

New data published by the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia shows that credit card delinquency rates in the first quarter of 2024 rose to the highest level since 2012, when the Fed began tracking the data. All stages of credit card delinquency — 30, 60 and 90 days past due — rose during the first three months of the year.

The proportion of card balances that were more than 60 days past due at the end of March climbed above 2.5%, more than double the lows seen during the COVID-19 pandemic when huge amounts of government stimulus helped keep Americans afloat.
