That's right, Oz.  Incandescent light bulbs which can't meet the new efficiency standard really are scheduled for banishment.  But that's not sitting too well with the American people.  Apparently, Americans like the idea of having a choice and being able to make their own decisions.
 
67% of Americans oppose the ban.  Only 20% favor the ban.
 
28% think the new Compact Flourescent Lightbulbs are good for the environment.  28% think they are bad for the environment.
 
72% of voters think a free market economy (where people make their own decisions) is better than a government managed economy.  Only 14% think a government managed economy is better.

i agree, no efficiency standards should ever change.  asbestos should still be offered as insulation, thalilomide should still be given to pregnant women if they prefer, and doctors should still advertise how healthy cigarettes are on tv.  CAFE standards on cars are bad because look how many cars now get over 25 mpg....change is bad.  naughty bad.  does the phrase stuck on stupid ring a bell?

Actually, there should be NO efficiency standards at all.  It's none of the government's business.  It's the CONSUMER, acting in his own free will which puts pressure on manufacturers to provide quality products.  Freedom isn't right for everyone.  Hoserhead apparently is too stupid to be able to make decisions for himself, so he wants the government to tell him what to do.

That's right.  It's none of the government's business what gas mileage cars get.  It's up to the consumer to decide what kind of gas mileage he wants in a car.

Not change.  Regulation.  Regulation is what's bad.  Change should be up to us.  Often change is good, especially when driven by consumer demand.  But not by government regulation.

have any of you bothered to do any research into CFL's?   Well I have and they are nowhere as dangerous as some would like you to believe.  below is an article that does a great job in explaining the whole issue.   The future however is LED...which far outlast anything else and have zero environmental impact...there only problem is cost...but that should come down in the near future.
