ICE Raids China-Owned Plant Featured in Obama-Netflix Documentary over Alleged Human Smuggling, Money Laundering!

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raided Chinese-owned Fuyao Glass America in Moraine, Ohio — featured in a 2019 Netflix documentary that former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama’s production company produced — over allegations of human smuggling and money laundering.

On Friday, local media reported that ICE agents had raided almost 30 businesses in Montgomery County, Ohio, including the Chinese-owned Fuyao plant, following allegations related to human smuggling and money laundering.

In a statement to the Dayton Daily News, an ICE spokesperson said:
Homeland Security Investigations special agents, in collaboration with IRS Criminal Investigation and other law enforcement agencies, are conducting federal search warrants at Fuyao Glass America and 27 other locations in the Dayton area as part of an ongoing criminal investigation. [Emphasis added]
Special agents are on scene investigating allegations of financial crimes and labor exploitation. There is a large law enforcement presence in Dayton, Liberty Township, Miamisburg, Moraine and West Carrollton but there is no threat to public safety at this time. Please avoid the areas where active law enforcement activities are ongoing.

Vice President Kamala Harris championed the administration’s so-called “Bidenomics” as costs dramatically soared for American families.

Costs increased on average across the board by about 20 percent under the Biden-Harris administration. Popeyes, Taco Bell, and Chipotle, for example, raised prices by at least 75 percent, according to the Food Institute.

At least five times Harris praised the policies that fueled the rising costs:

Yellen says $3 trillion is needed each year to fund climate transition!

Yellen said multilateral financial institutions like the World Bank are setting new climate financing targets!

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said Saturday the world's transition to a low-carbon economy requires $3 trillion in new investment annually through 2050, and that filling the financing gap to reach that level of funding represents the biggest economic opportunity of the 21st century.

Yellen spoke in Belem, a Brazilian city known as the gateway to the Amazon, after meeting with G-20 finance ministers in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday and Friday. She said reaching net-zero carbon emissions goals remains a top priority for the Biden-Harris administration, but that doing so requires leadership from around the world.

"Neglecting to address climate change and the loss of nature and biodiversity is not just bad environmental policy. It is bad economic policy," Yellen said. "But being so close to the magnificent Amazon is also a reminder that the transition to a lower-carbon global economy is also the single greatest economic opportunity of the 21st century. The transition will require no less than $3 trillion in new capital from many sources each year between now and 2050."

Russia will use cryptocurrency to handle backlogged payments to allies amid Western sanctions!

Russia owes money to trading partners such as China, India, and the UAE!

Russia will turn to cryptocurrency as the newest method to circumvent heavy international sanctions that have taken their toll on the economy amid its ongoing war efforts in Ukraine.

"We are taking a historic decision in the financial sphere," Anatoly Aksakov, head of the Duma lower house, told lawmakers, according to Reuters. The Duma passed the bill on Tuesday after three readings.

The U.S. and Western allies applied severe sanctions on Russia following its invasion of Ukraine, including the extreme decision to cut off some Russian bank access to the SWIFT banking system.

Russia since then has tried to use the currency of trading partners, including convoluted transfer schemes to try and skirt sanctions, but the heavy global reliance on dollars and euros has hampered such efforts – forcing Moscow to seek alternatives, such as digital currencies.

Intel Reportedly Plans to Lay Off Thousands of Employees!

The chipmaker is making the cuts amid growing competition with AMD and Nvidia, according to Bloomberg. In the meantime, Intel plans on launching new laptop chips in September.

As Intel faces more competition than ever, the company reportedly plans to lay off thousands of employees.

According to Bloomberg, Intel is slashing jobs to cut costs and help engineer a rebound. The layoffs, which could be announced as soon as this week, will affect the company’s 110,000-
employee workforce. 

Intel declined to comment. But the chip giant might share more on Thursday when it reports second-quarter earnings. It previously cut 5% of its workforce in October 2022.

The boom times may be over for the construction industry, sapping the labor market of one of its key sources of strength over the past year.

Construction spending fell in June, tumbling 0.3 percent to an annual pace of $2.5 trillion, data from the Commerce Department showed Thursday.

Economists had expected an increase of 0.2 percent. None of the economists surveyed by Econoday had forecast a decline.

As well, the Commerce Department revised down the May figure, which now shows a 0.4 percent decline instead of the original 0.1 percent drop.
