Yeah, I live in Texas too, and we just saw in the paper about how two gusy shot it out after a minor traffic accident.

WTF do people carry in their cars?  They should have exchanged insurance info and left.

A woman who survived a mass shooting in Highland Park, Illinois, in 2022 made a passionate plea for gun safety legislation in front of TV cameras after a mass school shooting in Nashville, Tennessee.

After a police official finished a briefing on the deadly school shooting that left three 9 year olds and three adults dead, Ashbey Beasley stepped in front of the microphones.

“How is this still happening? How are our children still dying and why are we failing them? Gun violence is the number one killer of children and teens — it has overtaken cars,” Beasley said March 27.

Beasley told PolitiFact that she was in Washington, D.C., on March 24 to attend the Generation Lockdown rally, where activists and lawmakers gathered to support an assault weapons ban, and then traveled to Nashville to see family and a friend. Beasley became a gun safety activist after she and her son, then 6 years old, survived the Highland Park mass shooting during a July 4 parade.

After previous mass shootings, including at a school in Uvalde, Texas, we fact-checked U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., who said that “the leading cause of death among children is a firearm.” We rated his statement Mostly True based on analyses of 2020 federal data. The same finding holds true for 2021 data on children and teenagers ages 1 to 19.

People can debate the need for more or fewer armed guards at American schools, the use of active shooter drills and the wisdom of the idea that maybe even teachers should be packing heat.

But there’s one thing that is indisputable in the available data on gun violence – and the data is limited since until recently the federal government was effectively barred from gathering it.

The indisputable fact is that where there are more guns, there are more gun deaths.

AUSTIN, Texas — Gun violence has been going up in recent years. Some people point to easy access to guns; others say it’s because the state isn’t keeping felons in jail.

In Texas, people who are over 21 can carry a handgun in public without a license. Background checks and training are not required for most people in the state. Lax gun laws have earned Texas an “F” grade from the Giffords Law Center, an organization dedicated to saving lives from gun violence.

“Texas has also been moving unfortunately in the wrong direction, passing really dangerous laws that put residents at risk,” said Kelly Drane, a research director with the Giffords Law Center.

In a Giffords Law Center article, the author wrote, “Gun homicides overall have increased steadily in Texas over the last decade, rising over 90% from 2011 to 2020.”

“Part of the gun violence problem in our country is simply that it is too easy for people who want to cause harm to access incredibly lethal weapons,” Drane said.

Drane stressed that increasing gun violence is a nationwide problem. It’s not just Texas.

Mexico has extremely restrictive laws regarding gun possession. There are only two stores in the entire country, DCAM near the capital, and OTCA, in Apodaca, Nuevo León. It also takes months of paperwork to have a chance at purchasing one legally


In 1971, Article 10 of the present Constitution was changed^[10] to limit the right to keep arms within the home only (in Spanish: ...derecho a poseer armas en su domicilio...) and reserved the right to bear arms outside the home only to those explicitly authorized by law (i.e. police, military, armed security officers). The following year, the Federal Law of Firearms and Explosives came into force^[11] and gave the federal government complete jurisdiction and control to the legal proliferation of firearms in the country; at the same time, heavily limiting and restricting the legal access to firearms by civilians.
As a result of the changes to Article 10 of the Mexican Constitution and the enactment of the Federal Law of Firearms and Explosives, openly carrying a firearm or carrying a concealed weapon in public is virtually forbidden to private citizens, unless explicitly authorized by the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA). For purposes of personal protection, firearms are only permitted within the place of residence and of the type and caliber permitted by law.
