true..ralph did say that, but look at how society was back then.  men could pretty much beat their wives, rape them and society and law would look the other way.  very few men were ever prosecuted for wife beating unless it ended up in a hospital.  and, yes, we knew Ralph was joking, that was funny, but try saying that today in a sitcom, and with good reason...THERE ARE WOMEN STILL BEING BEATEN BY THEIR HUSBANDS AND BOYFRIENDS AND IT IS NOT A JOKE.  just look at how rude Archie was to Edith.  telling her to stifle, calling her a dingbat, dismissing everything she said, get him dinner, shut up and get him some coffee....and it wasn't freaking anybody out back then.  but it would today and it should.  what you are complaining about is actually a good thing- women are tired of being pushed around by men and they're not going to take it anymore- and it reflects in our shows, tv ads, movies and songs.  change is good.  why would you want your daughter to be treated like a second class citizen?  that if she gets married, the man is the master and she is subservient?  that's bullshit.
