I grew up surrounded by every conceivable genre of music because my parents were country and western fans, my grandmother was a big band and swing fan, my oldest brother introduced us all to rock-n-roll and my aunt who ran away to NY city used to rave about jazz and play us lots of Elvis when she'd come to visit...
