Republicans in NC remove Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson from their social media following new scandal

As he seeks North Carolina’s top elected office, Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson’s support of other Republican candidates and their support for him is well documented on the internet. But some of those posts started to disappear as news of Robinson’s latest scandal became clearer.

On Thursday, Robinson was linked to several offensive comments made on a pornographic website that included calling himself “a Black Nazi” and expressing support for slavery. Robinson has denied making the comments and has dismissed calls to suspend his campaign for North Carolina governor.

Some North Carolina politicians have spoken out to some degree, like state Rep. Richard Hudson when asked about it on the steps of the North Carolina State Capitol. “My hope is that the lieutenant governor can reassure the people of North Carolina that the allegations aren’t true,” he said.

Said Sen. Tedd Budd in a statement, “The comments reported in the article are disgusting. Mark Robinson says they are not from him. He needs to prove that to the voters,” said Sen. Ted Budd in a statement provided to CBS 17.

Many of those scrubbing their social media of Robinson, like Rep. Virginia Foxx, GOP candidate for Labor Commissioner Luke Farley, and GOP congressional candidate for NC 01 Laurie Buckhout, have stopped short of condemnation.

“Maybe this is finally the incident that makes people try to distance themselves from Mark Robinson,” said Philip Shulman, States and Specials Projects communications director for American Bridge 21st Century. “But it’s too little, too late. The things that he has said, the things that he has done, the things they have just completely turned a blind eye to, that’s already happened. And I don’t know how they out run that.”
