New York City recently boasted of “significant reductions achieved in most major crime categories citywide,” with the NYPD reporting that overall index crime “dropped another 4.9 percent in the month of April compared to the same month last year.”

A few days later a woman was lassoed while walking down a Bronx street and raped between two parked cars. The crime was captured on video and went viral, and NYC served up a chaser when “beloved hometown actor and Brooklyn native Steve Buscemi,” as the New York Post described the 66-year-old actor, was randomly punched in the face while walking in Manhattan.

Buscemi, who starred in “The Sopranos” and “Boardwalk Empire,” was the victim of an unprovoked assault Wednesday that resulted in bruising, swelling, and bleeding to his left eye. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment, according to the newspaper.

“I saw he was with a woman, and then through the corner of the window I saw him trip and fall backwards,” a worker in the area who saw Buscemi fall told the Post. “He right away got up and ran in the opposite direction. I didn’t see who hit him.

He becomes the second “Boardwalk Empire” actor to be assaulted in the Big Apple. On March 31, co-star Michael Stuhlbarg was hit with a rock while walking in Central Park — he reportedly chased down the assailant, who was taken into custody outside the park.

President Joe Biden’s border crisis put two of New York’s Finest in the hospital early Monday as a so-called “asylum seeker” demonstrated a “total disregard for life.”

During a press conference following the incident, NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban detailed that the officers, identified as Christopher Abreu and Richard Yarusso, had “observed a male suspect driving a moped the wrong way on 82nd Street near 23rd Avenue and attempted to pull him over.”

“The suspect then fled on foot and officers began a foot pursuit, which led for several blocks. During the pursuit, the suspect fired multiple rounds at our officers, who then returned fire,” he explained.

While the suspect, said to be 19-year-old Venezuelan national Bernardo Raul Castro-Mata by Fox 5, was struck in the ankle and ultimately arrested, Yarusso took a shot to the bulletproof vest that he reportedly ignored in his effort to render aid to Abreu who was shot in the leg.

While Fox 5 indicated that Castro-Mata, who was allegedly residing with other illegal aliens at the former Courtyard Marriott Hotel near LaGuardia Airport according to Caban, was wanted for several robberies involving motorized scooters, the New York Post elaborated that the Venezuelan national had entered the United States via Eagle Pass, Texas in July 2023.

However, the city saw a 5.1% increase in rape and a 7.2% increase in robberies. And year-to-date, the city has seen an increase in felony assaults: 8.58K in 2024 compared to 8.33K in 2023.

The city's subways have been the focus of most New Yorkers' crime anxieties, but according to the MTA, overall crime is down on the rails.

"Major crimes in the nation’s largest subway system plummeted another 23%, continuing a downward trend that saw previous transit system decreases of 15.4% in February and 23.5% in March," the NYPD said in a press release.

Hate crimes in total are up 39%, and hate crimes targeting Jewish and Muslim populations have doubled. This spike is "not unrelated to current geopolitics," the NYPD said.

Venezuelan migrant accused of several thefts released without bail — again — after vicious NYC sidewalk robbery!

A Venezuelan migrant with two open theft cases was arrested again for snatching a woman’s necklace off her body during a vicious sidewalk robbery — and then quickly cut loose by a Manhattan judge, The Post has learned.

Brian Castillos, 22, was arrested last Friday for the heist in Hell’s Kitchen, which he allegedly committed with another migrant man, Alexander Ayala, a repeat offender also accused of beating up two cops at a Manhattan shelter.

Authorities said Castillos and Ayala, 24, converged on the woman as she walked down 11th Avenue near 49th Street at about 3:30 p.m. Aug. 12, with Castillos riding a bike up on the sidewalk and grabbing her necklace and purse before riding away.

The woman — who had a young child with her — told cops that her purse had two credit cards and a cellphone in it, according to the criminal complaint.

Castillos was hit with two counts of grand larceny, one count of endangering the welfare of a child and petit larceny, none of which are bail-eligible charges.

Ying Zhu Liu, 57, was shot after watching her husband get robbed!

A burglar shot and killed a 57-year-old woman in her New York City apartment building on Monday, according to authorities.

The shooting took place at around 11 p.m. on Market Street in the Lower East Side. The New York Police Department confirmed the incident to Fox News Digital on Tuesday afternoon.

The homicide victim was identified as Ying Zhu Liu, 57. The NYPD told FOX 5 New York that Liu's husband had been followed to their eighth-floor apartment shortly before the murder.

Two suspects tried to rob the husband before Liu stepped outside of the apartment to see what was going on. The couple's 32-year-old son also stepped into the hallway.

The crazed gunman who shot up the emergency room at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx two years ago — almost hitting a mom holding a baby — has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Keber Martinez, 25, was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to first-degree assault over the Jan. 25, 2022, shooting spree that injured one man and sent dozens of staff and patients running for cover.

“The defendant opened fire inside Jacobi’s emergency room, wounding one man and showing complete disregard for the patients and staff, with one bullet lodging in a wall close to a woman holding a baby,” Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said.
