Actually, using the old record player may have more to do w/ that...we had a technics turntable w/ a diamond stylus (I assume my sister-in-law still has it. We loaned it to my brother to convert his albums to tape and CD and never got it back, but he died in 2007)...and we took a bunch of the old 78s from my Mom's house and played them, and on our system, they sounded, not bad.  It's too bad that vintage records have not gotten the respect they deserve.  I gave all the old stuff to a collector who was just starting out, he was about 15 years old...and only kept a couple vintage Jimi Hendrix and Beatles...w/ all the moving we did over the years, we had to lighten our load...

But it's still fun to see old records...

I have all our old 78's too - one treasure being a Beatles album with the actual cover under the one on top.  I forget which one it is but they are all stored away.   We did have a Sony turntable but it's hard to get needles for it once they break.  I think our Beatles album is worth about $200 on ebay.
